Each cabin has a fireplace and they keep it ready each day to just drop a match in and enjoy a toasty fire in the evenings. Also, they keep your fridge stocked with soft drinks and they supply homemade caramelcorn.
I just returned from my third visit to Latigo Ranch. My daughter and I have enjoyed this experience twice and this time we took my 8 year old granddaughter.
Latigo Ranch is a bit of Heaven on earth. The scenery is flat out amazing; the staff is warm, friendly and caring; the food is outstanding; and the adventure is like none other. Had a wonderful holiday here with my son. I loved the riding - allowing you to go slow or FAST. great overnight. Cattle rounding up and punching was really fun. Perfect place to make a city person feel relaxed and welcome. Nice people, beautiful location, good food, activities, etc. GO - you'll love it.
There were 11 other kids there, so she also made friends and couldn't wait to hang out at the clubhouse with them. She went on an overnight campout in a teepee, and got to round up cattle and pen them, too.
The owners, Jim, Kathy, Randy and Lisa, are warm and welcoming hosts. Jim, especially, is a font of stories and horse-sense. Randy and Lisa, and now their son, Spencer, are gourmet cooks and each meal is such a treat! You do get typical ranch fare like buffalo burgers and steaks cooked outdoors, but the desserts served at the indoor dinners were nothing short of inspiring. We had a "blown sugar sphere" filled with chocolate mousse. I've never seen anything like it. My favorite meal was breakfast though, with cereal, fruit, homemade granola, and any kind of hot entrée you might desire.
By the end of the week, you've made some great friends. I can't recommend this ranch highly enough. We can't wait to go back again.
You get all the horseback riding (walk, trot and lope, and in my case, a couple of jumps, too!) you can hope for, but there are other activities like swimming, fishing, hot-tubbing, shooting, rafting, hiking, overnight camp, dancing, cowboy skills (like roping, hatchet throwing, whip cracking and archery), or you can just relax at one of the cozy cabins.
You cannot find a better way to enjoy the mountains than on horseback. With friendly, responsible wranglers leading the rides, you get to experience mountains, prairie, woods, water and the great fresh air. The horses are so well cared for and responsive; they are a delight! My granddaughter was a little uncertain about riding, but they provided her with a horse that was perfect for her.
